VINCENT VAN GOGH 1853-1890
sypnosis
Vincent van Gogh was a humanitarian who went to live with the miners for awhile. His mental illness always got in his way of being happy. He went nuts and cut off his ear and sent it to a woman at a brothel he used to frequent. He got on people's nerves every where he went.
He painted a lot of dark canvases until he hooked up with the Impressionists who were doing fantastic things with colour. He invited Gaugin to stay with him, but he got on his nerves too and he left. He had a brother Theo who loved him very much. Theo collected his paintings and always believed in him.
Vincent moved to Arles and painted many well known canvases. That was the amazing thing about Van Gogh; he painted so many pictures so fast, almost as though he knew he was going to die young and he crammed it all into a shortened life.
Remember Don McClean's song 'Vincent': "Starry starry night, paint your palette blue and grey, look out on a summer's day, with eyes that know the darkness in my soul. . . . and when no hope was left in sight on that starry starry night, you took your life like lovers often do. . . . but I could have told you Vincent, the world was never meant for one as beautiful as you."
Vincent killed himself. His brother didn't live long after Vincent died.
